Porsche 911 Turbo S: Even More Dynamic, Top Equipment all Standard [Video]

World Debut in Geneva: New Top Model in the 911 Series

Stuttgart. The engineers at Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, have developed a new top-of-the-range sports car for the customer who will only settle for the very best in terms of power, performance and driving dynamics: the 911 Turbo S. The heart of this most exclusive high-performance athlete is of course a six-cylinder boxer boosted by two exhaust gas turbochargers with variable turbine geometry, with an increase in power over the 911 Turbo by 30 to 530 bhp (390 kW). Maximum torque is a most impressive 700 Newton-metres (516 lb-ft). At the same time this new top model comes as standard with all high-tech components available only as options on the "regular" 911 Turbo.

Despite its significant increase in power and dynamic performance, the new 911 Turbo S, at 11.4 litres/100 kilometres (equal to 24.8 mpg imp), does not consume any more fuel than the Porsche 911 Turbo, making it by far the most efficient sports car in its performance class.

The 911 Turbo S comes exclusively with seven-speed Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) (Porsche's Double-Clutch Gearbox) conveying drive power to Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel drive. Driving safety optimised to an even higher standard is ensured by Dynamic Engine Mounts and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) including a mechanical differential lock on the rear axle. In conjunction with Launch Control on the Sport Chrono Package Turbo likewise featured as standard, 911 Turbo S accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and reaches 200 km/h in 10.8 seconds

Top speed is 315 km/h or 195 mph. Extra-light and fading-resistant Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) provide the same outstanding performance in terms of stopping power and controlled application of the brakes.

The supreme level of standard equipment including Dynamic Bending Lights, 19-inch wheels in RS Spyder design with central locking, a three-spoke sports steering wheel with gearshift paddles, adaptive sports seats, cruise control, a CD/DVD changer and exclusive twin-tone leather upholstery in Black/Crema or Black/Titanium Blue additionally underlines the outstanding class and calibre of this first Turbo S in five years.

The new Porsche 911 Turbo S will be at the dealership as both a Coupé and Cabriolet as of May 2010. The German market price of the Turbo S Coupé is Euro 173,241 including 19 per cent value-added tax and local equipment in the market (the Euro base price is Euro 145,400). The Cabriolet retails in the German market at Euro 184.546, again including 19 per cent VAT and local equipment/specifications (base price Euro 154,900).

Proton Gen-2 Persona Joins UK Line-Up

With Lotus Influences

The Proton Persona was first launched in August 2007 in Malaysia, and soon after arrived in Australia. In its home country Malaysia the car was ordered by over 2,200 people before it was released, giving the car maker a big confidence boost. A couple of months later, Proton revealed the car to the Australian market and now it has been released in the UK and will be on sale by the end of the month.

In the UK the new model will be known as the Gen-2 Persona (instead of just Persona in Malaysia and Australia) and is powered by the new 1.6 liter Campro engine, engineered by UK-based sister company Lotus. The engine produces 110 bhp and 148 Nm of torque which is put to the road through a 5 speed manual or 4 speed automatic gearbox.

Standard equipment on the sub GBP 12,000 car include climate control with pollen-filter, electric windows, mp3-capable CD sound system, Anti-lock Bracking System, Electronic Brake Distribution, driver and passenger airbags, side impact protection bars, power steering and rear parking sensors.

New Proton Persona Launched

Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Wathiqu Billah Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafi Billa Shah today officially launched the PROTON Persona, the new sedan that is PROTON’s pride and joy.

This latest addition to the PROTON family is the fifth model fully built by PROTON after the introduction of the Waja in 2000, the Gen.2 in 2004, the Savvy in 2005 and the Satria Neo in 2006.

Developed with the PROTON i-CARE commitment to improve every quality aspect - from design, styling and production to sales and after-sales, the Persona is a PROTON re-defined.

As per its namesake, this newborn in the PROTON stable is an impression of beauty with advanced styling, generous interior and luggage space, practical with safe attributes and value for money proposition.

Bookings exceeding 2,200 units have been received for the PROTON Persona, even before it was officially unveiled by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, with 350 cars already registered and delivered to customers nationwide upon launching. Chairman of PROTON Holdings Berhad, Dato’ Mohammed Azlan Hashim, said the fact that the bookings were made before the unveiling of the actual car is testimony of the public’s belief and confidence in PROTON.

“It is an endorsement of You Can Count On Us promise that we made with the launching of the PROTON i-CARE, which is a commitment to quality made by all PROTON citizens” he added.

“We are extremely proud of this new product as it was built in accordance with PROTON’s new philosophy of producing the right car for the right market at the right price,” he further explained.

Dato’ Mohammed Azlan went on to say that,” PROTON has taken stringent measures from all aspects – man, machine, management and also encompassing our business associates, the vendors and dealers, to ensure that this model and all upcoming models consistently meet the quality expectations of the public.

PROTON, buoyed by the encouraging initial response, is targeting sales of 4,000 units per month.

The Persona is available in five variants - the 1.6 base-line automatic and manual; 1.6 medium-line, automatic and manual; and 1.6 high-line automatic only. The model currently comes in six colours; Blueberry tea, Light gold, Tranquillity black, Metal grey and Solid red. The seventh colour, Solid white, will be made available from September onwards.

The national car manufacturer’s latest offering is the most competitively-priced model in the 1,600 cc category, with the price ranging from RM44,999 to RM55,800

Managing Director, Dato’ Haji Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir expressed optimism that the Persona will be a car that excites, with its stylish yet practical exterior and interior.

Its aerodynamic and advanced styling enhanced by the elegant face design with exquisite front grille as well as stylish rear end and tail design is bound to turn heads on the road. The dark grey interior for practicality, chrome finishing for exquisite appearance, and meter combination with built-in clock for functionality together with the roominess of cabin space will warm the hearts of motorists and passengers.

Powered by the improved 1.6 Campro engine, the Persona holds promise of smooth drivability and ride comfort. It also boasts of fuel economy that is very competitive in the 1,600cc segment.

“It will be the car that makes the difference,” added Syed Zainal, who is also optimistic that the launch of PROTON Persona together with several recent developments of tie-ups in international markets will mark the emergence of PROTON from its low ebb.

Just last month, PROTON announced its landmark deal with Youngman Automobile Group of China which has been billed as a development that will jumpstart PROTON’s turnaround. This was followed by the introduction of Waja and Neo in Indonesia, another big market for Proton. The addition of these two models is a quick follow-up on the successes PROTON have had with Gen.2 and Savvy in the Indonesian market. PROTON also posted the greatest improvement in customer satisfaction from the recent survey conducted by JD Power, which reiterates and underscores PROTON’s commitment to quality.

Volkswagen Ends Talks with Proton

Proton shares take plunge

Volkswagen has been having talks with the Malaysian government since 2004 about an alliance between Europe's largest car manufacturer and the state run Proton brand, resulting in the occasional news snippets. But two days ago talks once again collapsed, leaving the flailing Malaysian car manufacturer without the needed financial backing and Volkswagen without an ASEAN market stepping stone.

Volkswagen will still enter the ASEAN market in due time on its own accord and establish its own chain of suppliers and dealerships. But for Proton the collapse of the negotiations have more dire results, Automotive News reports today that Proton shares have dropped by 12% to a seven-year low.

Proton has recently launched the new Proton Persona and was hoping to piggy back on VW like Skoda did, once the butt of most car jokes and now selling over 600,000 cars and aiming to hit the 1 million in 2010.
